The TWS MasterChef 2022 competition has come to an end and we are thrilled to announce the winner – watch the video to find out!
The competition was intense and the dishes were delicious! Our Year 7 students have truly outdone themselves with their culinary skills and creativity.
At Winstedt, we believe that there are many paths to successful learning and one of them is through the kitchen. During STEAM class, our students have been mastering their cooking skills over the term with Mr Ulrik. For the competition, each team had to bring their skills to the next level by creating their own unique dish with at least one vegetable, showcasing their mastery of nutrition education, meal planning, and teamwork.
Cooking not only teaches valuable life skills but also promotes healthy and enjoyable cooking experiences. This is in line with Winstedt’s Healthy School Guideline & Policy for all staff, students, and parents. We believe that providing a healthy and safe environment for our students is an essential part of their education. Many research studies have shown that teaching nutrition education with food preparation in classes is more effective than teaching it without food preparation. Studies also indicate that children who participate in culinary classes tend to make smarter food choices, eat more fruits and vegetables, and show improvement in food safety behaviours and cooking self-efficacy.
We are proud of our students for not only their culinary skills but also for the life skills they have acquired during this competition. Well done, all!
