Year Level Placement
Unlike traditional international schools, The Winstedt School does not automatically assume all children of a given age are working at the same academic level. Instead, Winstedt looks at each student as an individual and places him or her into the best fit year level based on a variety of factors including social and emotional development, learning profile, and academic skills.
Students in Year 3 and above are further grouped by learning profile for the core subjects of Literacy, Phonology (Spelling) and Maths.
These multi-age groupings allow Winstedt to tailor academic levels and teaching styles based on what best fits each individual student’s strengths and needs. These placements are not set in stone, but are flexible and adaptive to each child’s progress throughout the school year.
Parents will be informed of a student’s year level placement following review of a completed Application, and a Class Trial if the student participated in a trial as part of our admissions process.
Year Levels
The Winstedt School uses an international school mainstream curriculum which is modelled on the UK system and thus uses the British year level system as a guide for class placements. Below is a general year/grade to age chart for reference. But as mentioned above, we provide flexibility in year level placement aimed at fully optimising the student’s learning experience at Winstedt.
