YEP focuses on creating an engaging and supportive learning environment where each child’s unique developmental needs are recognised and nurtured. The programme introduces key concepts in literacy and mathematics at an ability-appropriate level, ensuring that students build a strong academic foundation while enjoying the process of learning.
Foundational Literacy and Mathematics
Structured across two levels to support the progressive development of foundational skills. Level A serves as the most foundational stage. This extended period allows students to solidify their core skills, ensuring a strong grasp of fundamental concepts as they progress. Level B, which runs for one year, builds slightly upon the foundation set in Level A. It provides students with an opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of key concepts throughout their journey in the YEP.
The Young Explorers curriculum includes hands-on learning opportunities for literacy and numeracy development:
In Literacy, students:
- Engage in phonological awareness and early phonics activities
- Develop expressive and receptive language through structured conversations and stories
- Strengthen fine motor skills for writing and mark-making
In Numeracy, students:
Develop an understanding of patterns, shapes, and measurement
Learn to count, compare, sort, and sequence
Explore Number Sense concept through hands-on activities
Holistic Life Skills Beyond Academics
In addition to academics, YEP integrates a holistic Life Skills component that incorporates Executive Functioning Skills, which includes Occupational Therapy (OT) and Speech and Language Therapy (SLT), and Social and Emotional Learning (SEL). This comprehensive approach supports the development of interpersonal skills, fostering a sense of collaboration, empathy, and inclusivity among peers.
At its core, the YEP is dedicated to empowering each child to explore their world with confidence and enthusiasm, laying the groundwork for a lifelong love for learning.
