
John Isaac
Profile
John is a qualified doctor and surgeon with more than 40 years of experience in the medical field and trained in such reputable institutions as the University of Singapore and the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh and Glasgow. He then held many notable positions in his medical career, such as Chief of Singapore’s National University Hospital’s Department of Surgery, and Director of Liver Transplantation before moving to the UK in 2006.
John further developed his liver specialization with the University of Birmingham Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital (Birmingham) and was appointed the head of the Liver Unit in 2014, leading his team to become a major liver and pancreas surgery centre and one of the largest liver transplant services in Europe. He has also sat on several expert committees such as the West Midlands expert advisory group for liver surgery and was the vice chairman of the UK’s national committee for liver transplantation.
John retired from full-time medicine in 2023 but continues to contribute to as a visiting consultant with Singapore’s National University Hospital. He enjoys the study of linguistics, history and astronomy and spending time with his two grandchildren.
