Why Emotional Awareness Matters
Emotional awareness and empathy aren’t just “nice to have”; they’re important life skills. For children, understanding feelings builds stronger relationships, better self-regulation, and the confidence to navigate the world with kindness.
Exploring Big Feelings
During their Social Emotional Learning lesson, Early Years students explored the big feeling of anger, learning to recognise it in themselves and others. They discovered that anger might show up as a frown, crossed arms, or even stomping feet.
With Ms Erin guiding them through playful dramatisation and roleplay, the children practised observing facial expressions and body language in a safe, supportive space.
Neurotypical or neurodiverse, every child benefits from learning how to navigate big emotions. This is how we grow at Winstedt – one feeling at a time
