Nadine Yap and Charles Wilcox, Singaporean and American; Alexa (19) and Zoe (16)
We met in the USA and lived there until we moved to Singapore in late 2006, when Alexa was almost two years old. She has been at The Winstedt School since she started there at age eight, in 2013. She’s now in Year 13 and is about to graduate.
We first heard of it through a mutual friend. We also discovered that it was the only school at the time that really sought to understand and encourage her individual strengths. The teachers and therapists work closely as a team for each child.
Winstedt prepares children for life after school by ensuring that the graduates are going out into the world with skills and experience that will help them. The small class size allows the school to tailor electives to the interests of the students in any given cohort.
At Winstedt, Alexa discovered that there isn’t one “right” path to learning and has thrived. She’s had the opportunity to explore many skills and subjects to discover her passions and strengths. Some of the activities she participated in over the years include Girl Scouts, Tae Kwon Do and School Council. She’s a current member of the Prefectorial Board, which does incredible work with students throughout the school.
We absolutely would recommend the school to families whose kids would flourish with a team that can co-create a personalised, flexible education that prepares them for their own learning while supporting their development as they look towards the future.
Alexa, Class of 2024, is headed to James Cook University to study Psychology. We’re proud to see our graduates taking bold steps towards their future!
